Lincoln Cathedral was built in the historic uphill area of Lincoln, and was, in the middle ages, the tallest building in Europe. It dominates the local landscape and can be seen from up to 20 miles away.

The Cathedral dates back to Norman times although it has been altered and additions added throughout the following centuries.

The Cathedral is 482 ft long and the crossing tower is 271 ft high. The chancel vault is 74 ft high and the nave 82 ft. It is mostly built from local Eolithic limestone.

The leafy view in the foreground is a former graveyard which has now been opened to the public with Church Lane running just behind the trees on the left hand side.
